Material overflows through the pump barrel or the handle rises

Applies to:

FGI manual pump sprayers (Universal 181383, Smith 190229/190230/190399, DEWALT DXSP190612, and others).

What causes this:

Liquid pushes up through the pump barrel, or the pump handle rises when unlocked. This is caused by dirt or debris under the pump check valve, or a check valve that is chipped, torn, or swollen.

• Dirt or debris under the check valve
• A chipped, torn, or swollen check valve

How to fix it:

1. Empty the tank and relieve all pressure first.
2. Clean the check valve and the valve sealing surface on the pump, removing any dirt or debris.
3. Inspect the check valve; if it is chipped, torn, or swollen, replace it.
4. Reassemble and test with clean water.
