Applies to:
FGI backpack and handheld sprayers with a cracked or leaking hose, a broken or bent wand, or torn harness straps (CRAFTSMAN, DEWALT, Smith, LESCO, and others).
What causes this:
Hoses crack from age, sun, or chemical attack; wands break from drops; harness straps wear out from heavy use. All three are user-replaceable, and the fix is straightforward once you have the right replacement.
How to fix it:
- Identify your model number first (on a label on the tank or pump); the replacement must match your model.
- Empty the tank and release all pressure before disassembling anything.
- Hose: unscrew the hose nut at the tank end, then the other end at the shut-off assembly. The replacement threads back on the same way.
- Wand: unscrew the wand from the shut-off assembly and hand-tighten the replacement.
- Harness: remove the old straps from the anchor points (clips, screws, or eye bolts on the tank) and attach the replacement straps to the same points.
- After any replacement, fill with plain water and test for leaks before using chemicals.
